Exploring microbiota as a diagnostic tool for paediatric Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease: a bioinformatics approach

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohns disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic conditions that significantly impact paediatric patients. This study investigates differences in the expression of Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways and Gene Ontology (GO) terms between healthy individuals and patients diagnosed with CD and UC. The results reveal contrasting expression patterns between IBD patients and healthy individuals, suggesting differential regulation in pathways related to oxidative stress and inflammation, dysbiosis, alterations in protein synthesis and modification, energy pathways, homeostasis, and viral involvement. These findings provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying IBD and highlight potential targets for future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
