Lipedema is a chronic adipose tissue disorder that primarily affects women. Its etiology remains unclear and involves abnormal accumulation of fat, mainly in the lower limbs. The condition leads to both physical and psychological morbidity, often with negative impact on daily life. Effective treatment options remain limited and are primarily conservative, including compression therapy and pain relief. Given that endurance training has demonstrated benefits in pain reduction and obesity management in other patient populations, the LipidEx study aims to investigate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) as a novel therapeutic approach for women with lipedema. We will conduct a crossover randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the effects of 12 weeks of HIIT compared to a control period of usual care. The primary outcome is change in pain, while secondary outcomes include changes in adipose tissue mass and quality of life.
