BackgroundRotavirus remains a leading cause of childhood diarrhoeal hospitalisation globally. Malawi introduced the monovalent G1P8 rotavirus vaccine (Rotarix(R)) in October 2012 and in April 2016 switched from trivalent to bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV to bOPV).
