Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are of great significance in many biological activities and diseases. It is essential to distinguish between direct, indirect and false PPIs in order to accurately understand their biological functions. Here we report a method based on phase separation-aided compartmentalization of protein-protein interactions in cells (PACPIC), which is tailored for identification of direct and indirect PPIs in cells, using recruitment as the readout.
