Gardenia duerrii sp. nov. is described and illustrated from middle parts of Central Peninsula Plateau, India. This new species is allied to Gardenia resinifera in flower (corolla tube, lobes and anther) and somewhat in leaf and stipule, but it differs in leaf texture, venation, fruit and calyx nature. Distribution of the new species is under the canopy of dry deciduous forests of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra states of India. Allied species Gardenia resinifera Roth type specimen is missing or likely destroyed during WW-II at the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin, Germany. Consequently, we designate herein a neotype for Gardenia resinifera.
