A cardinal feature of the encephalopathy of prematurity is dysmaturation of developing white matter and subsequent hypomyelination. Magnetisation transfer imaging (MTI) offers surrogate markers for myelination including magnetisation transfer ratio (MTR) and magnetisation transfer saturation (MTsat).
