BackgroundChildren born very preterm (< 32 weeks gestational age), are at risk for poor growth and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Poor outcomes in preterm children have been attributed to the aversive sounds and relative speech paucity of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
