The development of NIR fluorescent dyes with favorable optical properties is of great importance especially for applications within the field of optical imaging. In this study, we report the design, synthesis and photophysical characterization of novel BODIPY-Xanthene hybrid dyes obtained via Knoevenagel condensation between an asymmetrical BODIPY core and the functionalized xanthene aldehydes intermediates. The synthesized dyes ex-hibit absorption (667 nm) and emission bands (720-722 nm) within the NIR region. Detailed UV-Vis and fluo-rescence studies were performed and molar extinction coefficients and stokes shifts also calculated. Moreover, findings highlighting the influence of structural modifications on the optical behavior of the hybrid dyes and their potential utility in optical imaging applications are reported.
