Exploring Nurses Perspectives on Video Consultations and the Nurse-Patient Relationship

AimThis study aims to deepen our understanding of how outpatient clinic nurses experience the use of video consultations. Further, the prerequisites that outpatient clinic nurses find important to increase the usage of video consultations in outpatient clinics. Materials and methodsA hermeneutic qualitative exploratory approach was utilised to investigate these experiences and perceptions comprehensively. Data were collected through two qualitative focus group interviews with a purposive sample of 12 nurses from two Danish cardiology outpatient clinics. ResultsData provided insights into the perspectives of nurses, resulting in three main themes: Video consultations must be used at the right time, Nursing care must remain as a relational practice, and Missing initiatives for enabling nurses to use video consultations. The study highlights the importance of organisational support and infrastructure in shaping nurses attitudes toward video consultations.
