The analysis of textiloma behavior during the study period revealed marked territorial and sex-related heterogeneity. Departments such as Putumayo, Magdalena, Meta, and Quindio showed the highest averages among men, whereas regions like the Archipelago of San Andres and Guaviare presented outlier values among women. These differences reflect an unequal distribution of risk and variability in surgical and control practices, underscoring the need to strengthen prevention mechanisms. Preventing textilomas is a key indicator of patient safety and the quality of surgical practice. It requires concrete actions such as strict adherence to safe surgery protocols, systematic verification of counts, traceability of surgical materials, and continuous training of healthcare personnel in a culture of safety. Furthermore, the incorporation of intelligent analysis and traceability systems could enhance institutional surveillance, allowing the transformation of collected data into useful evidence for decision-making and the design of public policies aimed at reducing the incidence of this adverse event.
