We tested if gouging by Callithrix jacchus affects tree survival. The proportion of dead gouged trees in forest fragments was higher than the proportion of dead non-gouged trees, with larger effect on smaller trees. The number of holes did not affect tree survival. Parasitism of trees by marmosets may enhance forest turnover.
